Red Light Therapy - New York

Advanced Photobiomodulation at NY360 Wellness Medicine

Recharge Your Cells. Reduce Inflammation. Accelerate Recovery.

At NY360 Wellness Medicine, we use medical-grade Red Light Therapy (Photobiomodulation, PBM) as part of an evidence-based, physician-directed approach to optimize healing, recovery, performance, and longevity.

Unlike cosmetic red light treatments found in spas, our protocols are integrated into personalized treatment plans that may include functional medicine, hormone optimization, neural therapy, IV nutrient therapy, lymphatic therapy, and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to address the underlying drivers of symptoms—not simply mask them.

Whether your goal is to reduce pain, improve skin health, enhance athletic recovery, decrease inflammation, or support healthy aging, Red Light Therapy provides a safe, non-invasive way to improve cellular function.

True Healing Happens Here.

What Is Red Light Therapy?

Red Light Therapy (RLT), also known as Photobiomodulation (PBM) or Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), uses specific wavelengths of visible red and near-infrared light to stimulate your body's natural healing processes.

The wavelengths most commonly used include:

  • Red Light (approximately 630–670 nm) – targets skin and superficial tissues
  • Near Infrared Light (approximately 810–850 nm) – penetrates deeper into muscles, joints, nerves, and connective tissue

Unlike UV light, these wavelengths do not burn or damage the skin. Instead, they provide energy to cells, allowing them to function more efficiently.

How Does Red Light Therapy Work?

Step 1: Light Reaches Your Cells

Red and near-infrared photons penetrate the skin and are absorbed by mitochondria—the energy-producing structures inside every cell.

Step 2: Mitochondria Produce More ATP

The primary light-sensitive molecule is believed to be cytochrome c oxidase, part of the mitochondrial electron transport chain.

When stimulated, mitochondria produce more:

  • ATP (cellular energy)
  • Nitric oxide release
  • Controlled reactive oxygen species (ROS)
  • Cellular signaling molecules

These changes improve cellular metabolism and repair.

Step 3: Your Body Responds

The result is improved cellular performance leading to:

  • Better tissue repair
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Improved circulation
  • Enhanced collagen production
  • Faster muscle recovery
  • Reduced oxidative stress
  • Improved lymphatic function
  • Improved healing responses

Benefits of Red Light Therapy

Cellular Energy

Photobiomodulation increases ATP production, allowing cells to perform normal repair processes more efficiently.

Potential benefits include:

  • Increased energy
  • Better cellular resilience
  • Faster recovery

Pain Relief

Research has demonstrated improvements in:

  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Tendon injuries
  • Joint pain
  • Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Neuropathic pain

PBM appears to reduce inflammatory signaling while supporting tissue healing rather than simply blocking pain.

Reduced Inflammation

Chronic inflammation contributes to:

  • Fatigue
  • Joint pain
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Metabolic dysfunction
  • Accelerated aging

Red light therapy helps regulate inflammatory pathways while promoting resolution of tissue injury.

Skin Rejuvenation

Red light therapy has been shown to support:

  • Collagen production
  • Reduced fine lines
  • Improved skin elasticity
  • Improved wound healing
  • Reduced redness
  • Improved skin texture

Athletic Recovery

Athletes increasingly use photobiomodulation to:

  • Reduce muscle soreness
  • Improve recovery
  • Improve performance
  • Enhance tissue repair

Healthy Aging

As mitochondrial function declines with age, photobiomodulation may help support:

  • Cellular resilience
  • Reduced oxidative stress
  • Improved tissue repair
  • Healthy aging pathways

Although more research is ongoing, this represents one reason PBM has become an important tool in longevity medicine.

Conditions That May Benefit

Patients commonly use Red Light Therapy as part of comprehensive treatment for:

  • Chronic inflammation
  • Muscle soreness
  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Joint pain
  • Arthritis
  • Sports injuries
  • Tendon injuries
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Neuropathy
  • Delayed wound healing
  • Scar healing
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Acne
  • Hair thinning
  • Fatigue
  • Recovery after exercise
  • General wellness and longevity

Red Light Therapy - FAQs

Unlock Your Full Potential with NY 360 Wellness Medicine

Does Red Light Therapy really work?

Research supports the use of photobiomodulation for several conditions, particularly pain management, tissue healing, skin health, and inflammation. The strength of evidence varies by condition, and treatment outcomes depend on the protocol used.

How does Red Light Therapy increase energy?

Red light stimulates mitochondria to produce more ATP, the primary energy molecule used by cells.

Is Red Light Therapy safe?

Yes. Medical-grade red light therapy is considered very safe when used appropriately. Unlike ultraviolet light, it does not damage DNA or cause sunburn. Protective eyewear may be recommended depending on the device being used.

Does Red Light Therapy hurt?

No.

Most patients simply experience a gentle warming sensation during treatment.

How long is each session?

Most sessions last approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on the treatment area and clinical goals.

How many treatments will I need?

Some patients notice improvements after only a few sessions, while chronic conditions often benefit from a series of treatments over several weeks. Your physician will develop an individualized treatment plan.

Can Red Light Therapy reduce inflammation?

Yes.

One of the primary mechanisms of photobiomodulation is modulation of inflammatory pathways and improved cellular repair, which may help reduce chronic inflammation.

Can Red Light Therapy help arthritis?

Research suggests photobiomodulation may reduce pain and improve function in osteoarthritis and certain inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions when used appropriately.

Can Red Light Therapy improve skin?

Studies demonstrate improvements in collagen production, skin texture, wound healing, and certain inflammatory skin conditions.

Can Red Light Therapy help athletes recover faster?

Yes.

Research has shown reductions in muscle soreness and improvements in recovery following exercise when photobiomodulation is incorporated into training programs.

Can Red Light Therapy be combined with other treatments?

Absolutely.

At NY360 Wellness Medicine, Red Light Therapy is frequently combined with HBOT, PEMF, Flowpresso, IV nutrient therapy, neural therapy, and functional medicine programs to maximize recovery and support long-term wellness.
